EHHS Welcomes Richard M. Goldman
Richard Goldman Biography
Richard M. Goldman, Ph.D., is returning to Kent State University and its College of Education, Health and Human Services after a 47-year hiatus. During this time, Richard created the Goldman Team that includes 10 individuals who designed, implemented, grew, funded and eventually sold six, state-of-the-art educational organizations. Each organization added new, innovative components to Pre-K-12 educational frameworks.
In business terms, the Goldman Team is defined as “serial social entrepreneurs.” This concept will be at the heart of Goldman’s presentation. The Goldman Team has conceptualized, designed, funded, implemented and sold an array of innovative organizations, including:
- Another Generation Preschools. Served 1,200 children per year, the nation’s tenth largest provider.
- The Sagemont School. A brick-and-mortar K-12 school with 825 students. Among the first schools with a wireless laptop program.
- University of Miami Online High School. One of the first virtual schools to receive accreditation.
- Virtual Sage. An online curriculum publishing company that provided content to the major virtual providers.
- Smart Horizons Career Online Education. This online high school serves 20,000 adults who lack a high school diploma. The school is supported by: Amazon, Walmart, and McDonald’s.
- Xceed Preparatory Schools. Hybrid/micro schools designed for grades 6-12 using a highly personalized learning approach.
Richard and his wife, Renee, have given back to society in two significant ways:
- By creating innovative educational structures.
- Through the Goldmans’ generosity exemplified by their $3 million gift to endow the School of Education’s Dean Chair at the University of Pittsburgh.
Over the past 35 years, the Goldman Team’s organizations have provided education for more than 100,000 students.
