This Spring Semester, faculty from Kent State University consulted with school administrators at Bahrain Teachers College to build relationships that will enhance and advance education for students at BTC.
EHHS' School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies undertook a project to provide BTC with Consulting Services on Assessment Moderation to Support Development toward certification through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Accreditation through CAEP ensures that educator programs prepare new teachers to know their subjects and students, and guarantees instructors possess the clinical training to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively.
"This alliance with BTC offers the potential for a deeper partnership with the University of Bahrain, and, in particular, it opens the door for Kent State to offer an advanced degree for BTC students," said Stephen Mitchell, professor and associate dean for Administrative Affairs and Graduate Education for EHHS. "It also opens up the possibility for faculty collaborations in research."
Specifically, services included:
- Ten Kent State faculty across five specializations reviewed BTC's assessments according to protocol determined by Kent State and BTC. Specific specializations were:
- Elementary level literacy (English)
- Elementary level Mathematics
- Elementary level Science
- Elementary level general pedagogy (classroom management, differentiation, instructional strategies, and other aspects of pedagogy)
- Arabic language
- Kent State faculty provided oral feedback in a 90-minute session per specialization to BTC faculty, followed by a written report to conclude the project.
CAEP advances equity and excellence in educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning.
