EHHS Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs and Graduate Education Steve Mitchell, Ph.D., was recently invited to deliver a keynote and a closing address for the third International Conference on Physical Education and Sport at Sao Paulo State University in Rio Claro, Brazil.
Both presentations were well received, as was a practical workshop that Mitchell and Adriano De Souza provided for Physical Education teachers. Adriano, originally from Rio Claro and a 2005 Kent State University master’s graduate in Sport Pedagogy, also translated for Mitchell’s presentations.
To cap off a busy week, Mitchell provided instruction to fourth and fifth graders in a local school. These lessons were filmed to provide a model of developmentally appropriate content in physical education.
Mitchell also took the opportunity to visit the Pontifical Catholic University (PUCPR), a Kent State partner university based in Curituba, where Mitchell encouraged the integration of EHHS courses into the collaborative undergraduate degree program between the two universities.
“This partnership has a great deal of potential,” said Mitchell. “We look forward to having EHHS courses taught at PUCPR, and we welcome PUCPR students to Northeast Ohio to complete their Kent State degrees.
