Kent State University's Club Management Association of America (CMAA) chapter received the 2021 Student Chapter Idea Fair award in Crisis Management at the 2021 CMAA Virtual World Conference and Club Business Expo.
KSU CMAA students were tasked with presenting how their chapter was impacted by COVID-19 or other crises, and in what ways they demonstrated resiliency, creativity and innovation. In the wake of COVID-19, the Friends and Family Fundraiser dinner CMAA students organize in an effort to support travel to student conferences was canceled. The dinner, typically hosting around 150 attendees, raises around $2,000 from ticket sales and donations offered by local businesses to auction off during the event.
In response to the event's cancelation, students sold Friends and Family mystery boxes to ship to alumni, family, and friends of the program all over the country. These
mystery boxes were filled with an array of items including Hospitality Management-branded drink ware, wine openers, and masks; and local Kent goodies including donations from Barrio, Popped!, and other Kent restaurants.
KSU CMAA students were able to raise $1,160 in 45 box sales.
This is the first KSU CMAA chapter win since 2018, competing with representation from Purdue University, Florida State University, University of Massachusetts, and Johnson and Wales University.
