The University of Mount Union's School of Education, in conjunction with EHHS’ School of Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Studies, hosted an education symposium focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
The event, titled “Building Belonging: DEIB Education Symposium, brings together exceptional educators and practitioners across the region to share their work and discuss race, social justice, disability, allyship, diversity, and other topics related to the priorities of Pre-Kindergarten through 12th and higher education.
Jennifer Walton-Fisette, Ph.D., and Dr. Doug Ellison, Ph.D., (pictured), both from the School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies, hosted a session titled, "Trauma-informed Practices: Fostering Resilient Learners in Educational Contexts."
Kurt Russell, 2022 National Teacher of the Year, served as the Keynote Speaker. A history teacher at Oberlin High School, Russell advocates for more diversity among teachers and a curriculum that better reflects students’ backgrounds and identities.
The event, which runs through Sept. 30, was also attended by Daniel Diaz Nilsson, EHHS director of Diversity Outreach and Development.
