Christine Hudak, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, has been accepted as a contributing author to the book (tentatively) titled The Handbook of Continuing Professional Development for the Health IT Professional, to be published by HIMSS in 2017. Her chapter, “The Many Facets of Continuing Education,” will appear in the section on “The Importance of Lifelong Learning.”

Each year, Kent State University honors full-time, nontenure track and part-time faculty members who are nominated by their students and peers for being among the most dedicated, highly effective and motivated professors at the university. The Outstanding Teaching Award is presented by the University Teaching Council. The three award recipients will be honored at the University Teaching Council’s Celebrating College Teaching conference luncheon and awards ceremony on Oct. 20.

Each year, DesignIntelligence honors excellence in education and education administration by naming 25 exemplary professionals in these fields. The 23rd annual National Depression Screening Day at Kent State University will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at several Kent State locations, and events are open to all students, faculty and staff, as well as the larger community.
October will be a busy month for research at Kent State University. The Division of Research and Sponsored Programs is hosting three events, two of them with a focus on student research. These include two research forums, featuring five Kent State faculty speakers, and the presentation of Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) student research projects.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed Kent State University in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Kent State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
