Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 22, at 9:50 a.m. Kent State University will be participating in this test, along with the city of Kent and other communities. Kent State tests the tornado and emergency mass notification system on the first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. and on the third Wednesday at 4 p.m. These tests last for three minutes. This statewide test will replace the usual 11 a.m. test in March.
Kent State University Libraries is introducing three widely used software tools that are used for the collection, organization, citing, use and sharing of information resources that support research. A partnership with Information Services is offering workshops to introduce the three major programs: Zotero, Mendeley and Endnote programs.
Kent State University’s Project AWARE Kent offers a free Mental Health First Aid course to prepare Kent Campus students, faculty and staff to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health crises. The Mental Health First Aid course allows the Kent State community to be a network of responders able to identify the signs and symptoms of mental illness, assist during mental health crises and refer professional services to anyone exhibiting signs of mental distress.
Kent State University offered nine new experiences for exploratory majors this past fall to give those students the opportunity to discover future careers and participate in the Kent community.
Flash Connections, created specifically for exploratory students, was a program with enhanced sections of the required First-Year Experience class. All Kent State University-registered Internet Protocol (IP) phones on the Kent Campus and participating Regional Campuses have been connected to the University Mass Notification System (MNS). If the system is activated, all university-registered IP phones will broadcast the message. This is an upgrade of the Mass Notification System as only certain phones previously had been connected to the system.
