Life in NYC

New York City is a vibrant, multicultural metropolis that offers myriad diverse and dynamic opportunities. As it's the epicenter of American fashion, living in New York City will be an unforgettable experience that can seriously enhance your understanding of the fashion industry.

But believe us, living in New York City for the first time can be as overwhelming as it is exhilarating. Don’t worry, give it a week or so and you will easily see why an estimated 8 million people live here and over 1 million people visit daily – there is no city like it in the world. From the ever-changing, towering skyline to the culturally rich neighborhoods, New York offers a wealth of possibilities. At times it can feel like you are living in a foreign country (and depending on where you are coming from, it might be a foreign country!) – from the array of languages spoken on the street, to the variety of ethnic shops and restaurants, to the diversity of the people. This is what makes New York City so unique and creates an experience like none other.

At times you may be out of your comfort zone and daily routine and this is good. But always keep in mind that you are the creator of your own experience. Take advantage of the opportunities that await you around every corner with an open mind and face the exciting challenges ahead with patience and good humor. In the coming months, spend time preparing for your new “home.” The more you familiarize yourself with the city in advance of your arrival (street maps, transportation, neighborhoods, etc.) the easier it will be to adapt once you arrive.

Above all, have fun! Remember, you are not a tourist, but a participant in an educational experience that utilizes New York City as its living textbook. Take advantage of every opportunity, as this is the experience of a lifetime.
