Returning to an in-person event after a three year virtual hiatus, the Midwest KM Symposium will be hosted Friday, June 16, 2023, at Kent State University's main campus. The long-running gathering of practitioners of knowledge management, the art of transforming information and intellectual assets into enduring value for an organization, have previously met in Cincinnati, Chicago and Cleveland, as well as online.
This year, the School of Information (iSchool) is a sponsor and the host of the event, bringing a range of speakers to Kent, Ohio, who will address subjects ranging from knowledge management and innovation, sustainability in the smart cities of the future, as well as the effects of artificial intelligence on the field. The iSchool's Goodyear Endowed Professor of Knowledge Management Kendra Albright will deliver welcome remarks at the opening of the symposium.
The morning keynote speaker will be Tom Stewart, the author of Woo, Wow, and Win and former Editor-in-Chief of Harvard Business Review. Stewart was also the Chief Marketing and Knowledge Office for Booz & Company. He will speak on the subject of knowledge management and the experience of the customer. Stewart has also authored Intellectual Capital: The New Wealth of Organizations and The Wealth of Knowledge: Intellectual Capital and the Twenty-first Century Organization.
After the morning's smaller topic sessions, a networking break and lunch, Zach Wahl, president and CEO of Enterprise Knowledge, LLC, will deliver the afternoon keynote on the subject of making knowledge management "clickable." Wahl has served on the board of the Washington DC Knowledge Management Institute and his clients have included the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Health and Human Services and others.
Additional smaller sessions will follow this, along with a second networking and coffee break before the symposium concludes. A full list of speakers at these sessions can be found on the Midwest KM Symposium website.
Guests from out of town can reserve a discounted room at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center and there will be a pre-conference dinner the evening before the symposium.
