August 13 & 14, 2024

Movie Night(s)

  • Bring your roommates and friends and come over to the KIVA Auditorium.
  • August 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. to see a free movie showing.

Karaoke Night(s)

  • Want to show off your vocals to friends? If this applies to you or even if it does not and you are looking for a fun time with friends before the school year starts.
  • Make sure to join the Flash Activities Board (FAB) in the Rathskeller (lower level of the Kent Student Center) for open karaoke night.
  • Events will run from 6-8 p.m. both nights. Follow FAB on Instagram at fab_ksu for more details.

KSU Kickoff Check-In (Residential Students)

  • Required for all first-year students living in the residence halls.
  • This is your opportunity to learn about the KSU Kickoff schedule and meet with a Peer Success Mentor (PSM) to get your questions answered.
  • Students should attend this event based on their personal availability between the hours of 3 - 8 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. 
  • Check-in times are not assigned; however, attendance will be recorded upon student arrival. 
  • For only first-year, Kent State University students living on-campus, in a residence hall. Commuting students will be required to attend a different check-in session on August 16, 8  - 9 a.m. (more details can be found in the app and KSU Kickoff website). 

Fall in a Flash

  • Still have a last-minute business to take care of before classes start? After you check in for KSU Kickoff (as a residential student on 8/15/24) just come over to the Kent Student Center Dining Room (room 218) to get help. 
  • We will have several offices available to assist you with questions related to your scholarships, student loans, billing payment information, class registration/advising, military-connected benefits, student accessibility services, and transfer of credits, etc. 
  • 3 - 5 p.m. | KSC 218

LGBTQ+ LLC Meet and Greet

  • Come and meet the other residents living in the LGBTQ+ Living Learning Community, along with the staff from the LGBTQ+ Center at the LGBTQ+ LLC Meet & Greet!
  • During the event, students will get a chance to participate in a Speed Friending activity. 
  • Then enjoy pizza while painting and discussing upcoming programming and ways to get involved.
  • Event is from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the LGBTQ+ Center in the lower level of the Kent Student Center 

Honor's College Welcome

  • The Honors College would like to welcome our incoming class of Fall 2024. This will be an ice cream social where you can mingle with your classmates and participate in fun games and also meet upperclassmen and the Honors College staff to ask any Honors College questions. 
  • 5-7 pm outside the Honors College main office and under the Stopher/Johnson Bridge Lounge.

Bingo with FAB!

  • The event will be limited to the first 1,000 students (no RSVPs). Prizes for winners after each round. Prizes in the past have included a Nintendo Switch, an iPad, and Squishmallows!
  • This event is free and open for all to attend!

KSU Kickoff Commuter Check-In

  • This event is required for all first-year students classified as commuting to and from campus. This is your opportunity to learn about the KSU Kickoff schedule and meet with Kent State University staff and students to get your questions answered.  
  • Students should attend this event based on their personal availability between the hours of 8 - 9 a.m.  
  • The location is room 306 ABC of the Kent Student Center (third floor of the building). 
  • Check-in times are not assigned; however, attendance will be recorded upon student arrival.  
  • Student guides will be present at 306 ABC at 9:15 a.m. after this check-in concludes to take students to their Dean's Welcome location, which starts at 9:30 a.m. 

Dean’s Welcome 

  • Come together with other students in your college to meet your Dean. 
  • You'll build some pride for your major and new academic home before going to Convocation together. All new students are required to attend the Dean's Welcome for their respective college.
  • Check out the DKS Mobile app for more details for your Dean's Welcome for your specific college (including location)
  • These events will take place from 9:30 - 10 a.m. at various locations. 

Convocation 

  • This event is required for all new students.
  • Convocation introduces incoming first-year students to the administration of the university and serves as their first academic ceremony.
  • 10:30 a.m. | Memorial Athletic Convocation Center (MACC) 

Make Your MarK (K Picture) 

  • This event is required for all first-year students. 
  • Class of 2028! Follow your Peer Success Mentors (PSMs) from Convocation in the Memorial Athletic Convocation Center (MACC) to the Centennial Court Green for your class photo! The “K” picture will promptly begin at 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

First-Year Student Lunch 

  • Head to the Kent Student Center directly after the Class of 2028 photo for lunch provided by University Culinary Services. 
  • Make sure to have your FLASHcard on hand. 
  • This event will take place from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom and/or Room 218 (of the student center). 

Ice Cream with the College of Arts and Sciences Dean

  • Come grab some A&S Swag and have Ice Cream with the Dean of Arts & Sciences
  • 2 - 4 p.m. at the Bowman Hall Patio.

Common Conversations 

  • Common Conversations is a shared experience designed for first year and transfer students to connect through common dialogue and to engage in activities that will create a deeper connection to Kent State University before the start of classes. 
  • Your room location on Friday, August 16, is determined by your Fall Flashes 101 course section. The time of your Common Conversations Shared Experience is determined by your college. 
  • To find your location/time using the above room locator, use one of the following search criteria below (Course Section UC-10097-XXX <-- Must enter only all three digits OR Faculty name) found on your Fall schedule. 
  • If you have not already, please submit your Common Conversations reflection and respond to two of your classmates' reflections. For directions on how to submit your reflection, visit Common Conversations.

Global Block Partys 

  • The Global Block Party is a chance to make new friends, tie-dye an exclusive Global Block Party t-shirt, listen to a live DJ, and play fun carnival and lawn games! There will also be food trucks on site so you can grab a quick snack!
  • This event will take place from 2 to 4:00 p.m. at the Van Campen Hall Lawn 

Innovators Hub: Kickoff Music Fest 

  • Indulge in live music, an immersive virtual music exhibition, and a VIP lounge with exclusive gifts. 
  • Explore beyond the dining hall to see all that the DI Hub has to offer Kent State students.  
  • Happening from 2 - 4 p.m. Hosted by LaunchNET and Design Innovation.

EHHS College Connections 

  • Stop by an EHHS College Connections table and get information about College events, academic programs, and services.
  • This event will occur from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
  • Tables will be located in the MACC Annex 2nd floor hallway outside room 292, Nixson Hall 1st floor lobby, and White Hall 1st floor lobby (Moulton side). 

University College: Handel's Ice Cream Pops

  • Come out to meet the University College Dean, faculty, and staff before the school year starts! 
  • Bring friends and enjoy assorted Handel's ice cream pops.
  • 2:30 - 4 p.m. – Center for Undergraduate Excellence Lobby 

Late Night at the Library

  • Kick off the school year with Late Night at The Library
  • 8 – 11 p.m. at the Library
  • This will be a party where you can hang out with friends over free pizza and Handel’s ice cream! Enjoy a live DJ, a dance party, games, Esports, and giveaways. 
  • You can also meet your friendly librarians, who are here to help you during your time at Kent State! 
  • This year’s theme is GLOW, so bring your light-up gear and join the fun!

Kayaking and Tubing with Adventure Center

  • The Adventure Center will be offering free kayak lessons and river tubing at Tannery Park (near the Farmer’s Market). 
  • Learn kayaking skills or take a leisurely float down the historic and beautiful Cuyahoga River on an inflatable tube. 
  • Friendly Adventure Center staff will be there to assist you. Enclosed shoes or sandals with a back strap are required.
  • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Tannery Park- downtown Kent (100 Stow Rd.) 

DeWeese Open House and Scavenger Hunt

  • Students will have an opportunity to visit the DeWeese Health Center and complete a scavenger hunt of our facility. 
  • To keep up to date on DeWeese Health Center hours, services offered, and events, please visit: kent.edu/deweese. 
  • The event will be from 9 am - 1 pm at the DeWeese Health Center. 
  • This site will also serve as the meeting location to be transported to the Haymaker Farmer’s Market within this same timeframe. 

Haymaker Farmers’ Market Trip with the Kent State of Well-Being

  • Did you know Portage County’s oldest producer’s only farmers market is right in your backyard?! 
  • Take a free trolley, scoot, bike or walk downtown to shop locally with the Kent State of Well-being at the Haymaker Farmers' Market. 
  • Stock up on yummy prepared foods, locally grown fruits and veggies, fresh-cut flowers, roasted coffee, handmade soaps, art, and more! 
  • Walk around to learn about the local farming community and meet friendly local makers. Free shopping bags to carry your great finds while supplies last!
  • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Meet us at our blue and gold Well Hut tent at the DeWeese Health Center. 

Plants and Public Health 

  • Join the College of Public Health for Plants and Public Health! They will have pots to paint, seeds and plants for you, and some public health information and fun! 
  • Event is at Moulton Hall from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. 

Open Skating at the Ice Arena 

  • Stop by the Ice Arena to enjoy some ice skating on the main rink. Skates will be available to rent at no charge on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • This event occurs from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Fraternity and Sorority Life Festival

  • Fraternity and Sorority Life Festival (FSL Fest) is an opportunity for ALL STUDENTS to come meet all 30 of our fraternities and sororities here at KSU! 
  • FSL Fest is from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Tri Towers Rotunda.  
  • There will be giveaways and fun prizes!

RecWellcome Back Party

  • Come experience lots of games, activities, prizes and fun!
  • Activities include food trucks, rappelling from the indoor track, archery, rock climbing, sand volleyball, basketball, a DJ patio party, and more! 
  • Tours and free equipment orientations will also be available to help you become familiar with the SRWC. 
  • Participants will receive a passport to use for chances to win prizes including t-shirts, water bottles, hammocks, gift certificates, and more!

LGBTQ+ Fall Kick Off

  • From 2 - 4 p.m. join the LGBTQ+ Center for a Fall Kick-Off event to learn about on and off-campus resources for the LGBTQ+ community, learn about ways to get involved in LGBTQ+ events and student organizations, as well as meet new people in a fun and supportive environment.  

Blastoff and Athletics Pep Rally

  • Meet us at the Risman Plaza, Student Green, and Manchester Field on Sunday, August 18 from 5 – 7:30 pm for a chance to meet student organizations (over 200), learn about ways to get involved on campus, play games, win prizes, snag exclusive giveaways, talk with various campus departments and services, check out local food trucks, and create new friendships! 
  • Make sure to stick around at 7:30 PM at the Student Green for a special presentation by Kent State University Athletics. Learn more about Athletics, KSU traditions, the new ticketing system, and a chance to get exclusive giveaways!

  • Join us to learn more about the E. Timothy Moore Student Multicultural Center and the programs/initiatives that we provide while enjoying food and being in the community. All are welcome! 
  • This event will take place on Tuesday, August 20 from 4 - 6 p.m. 

We’ve Got Your Back 

  • An event that connects military beneficiaries to on and off campus resources. CAVS Staff members will also do an in-depth benefits orientation for veterans, service members, and their dependents.
  • This event will occur from 4. - 6 p.m. in the third floor of the Kent Student Center.

  • All students are welcomed to an event in downtown Kent where students can get to know the area and the shops/services available to them as members of the Kent community. 
  • Also, come for exclusive giveaways courtesy of Athletics, raffle prizes, and live music from The Michael Weber Show!

  • Looking for a job on campus this Fall? Interested in learning about working on campus but are not ready to apply just yet? Come to the Student Employment Fair! Meet on-campus employers, receive a FREE professional headshot, get feedback on your resume from a career advisor, and learn about the Career Closet containing FREE professional clothing items.

  • Interested in attending Akron Pride Festival on Saturday, August 24, but need a ride? The LGBTQ+ Center is providing a free shuttle service to KSU students! 

  • Registration is open now and closes Sunday, August 18 at 11:59pm.  Register Today

  • The Pride Shuttle is only available to students enrolled at Kent State for the Fall 2024 semester. Unable to transport non-enrolled students, recent graduates, or community members.

  • The shuttle will have a wheelchair lift, but the bus may only accommodate 1-2 wheelchair users at a time.
