Interns

Fall 2024 LGBTQ+ Center Interns 

Serena Gestring (she/her) is a senior majoring in Emerging Media and Technology with minors in Web Design & Development and User Experience Design. She has also recently been admitted into the EMAT Master's program! This is her fifth year interning at the KSU LGBTQ+ Center and her third year as the Website Coordinator! Serena is very excited to continue her work at the Center. Once she graduates, she plans to pursue a career in web development. In her free time, Serena enjoys spending time with her pit bull (Deimos) and her family, reading all kinds of books, and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Sam (they/she) is a senior majoring in Psychology with a concentration in counseling and a minor in Drawing. They identify as asexual. Outside of Kent State, they enjoy writing and spending time with their cat, Oscar.

Camryn (they/she) is a freshman majoring in Psychology and Anthropology. This is their second year interning at the LGBTQ+ Center. Their favorite event of the year is the Center’s annual Rainbow Run! In her free time, Camryn likes to listen to music, play guitar, and watch movies with their two cats.

Florence Hite (they/them) is an freshman Art History major with a minor in LGBTQ+ Studies. This will be their second semester working with the center and they are super excited to continue to create safe and supportive programming for fellow students! Outside of their work at the center they are involved in a ton of extracurriculars on the Kent campus as well as in the greater community. They are in the Steel Drum Ensemble, Kent Archery Club, are a reporter for Black Squirrel Radio, volunteer for the American Red Cross, and are a chair member for Trans Joy Akron. When not at work or doing extracurriculars, Florence can be found enjoying music in some way or another. Whether that be listening to their eclectic vinyl collection or moshing at a DIY punk concert.

Max (they/them) is a junior majoring in Radiology with a concentration in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. This is their second year with the Center as an intern and have loved the opportunity to serve their community. In their free time, Max likes to do all kinds of crafts, including crocheting and making bracelets. They also like to relax by spending time with friends, reading or walking outdoors. 

Robin (She/Her) is a sophomore at Kent State, having started Fall 2022, and she is majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology. She's been an intern at the center since Fall of 2023. She's a bisexual trans woman, and she's been transitioning since 2019. She can't wait to be able to give support to the LGBTQ+ community in any way she can! In her free time, Robin enjoys playing board games with friends, playing indie video games, and listening to Will Wood (and The Tapeworms) on loop. 

William (HE/IT) is currently a senior here at Kent State University and is majoring in psychology and is majoring in forensic anthropology. He started school here in fall of 2021 and is set to graduate this spring (2025)! Will is transmasculine and queer. It has been on testosterone since 2020! Will’s interests include horror movies/games and unfiction. Its special interest is Silent Hill. Will has been on the intern team since fall of 2023. He looks forward to meeting and supporting students, faculty, and staff in the community and allies to our community.

Autumn Jacobs (She/hers/hers) is a Graduate student at Kent State University and she is studying Criminology for her Masters. She is a bisexual woman, and she is a Co-facilitator for Q’ommunity and QTPOC and hopefully will be at the LGBTQ+ Center for a long time. She is also a K/T Mentor Advocate, Secretary for Student Legal Services and a Volunteer for SRVSS.  

Daniel Parker (He/Him) is a senior at Kent State University. He is studying Integrative Studies with a minor in Queer Theory. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, writing songs, and hanging out with his friends.

Rowan (they/them) is a senior majoring in Sociology and minoring in LGBTQ+ studies and Environmental studies. This is their first year interning with the LGBTQ+ center, but they have previously been an RA in Korb and have been helping the community since high school. You can usually find Rowan reading a book, listening to music, spending time with their cats Eevee and Umbreon, or hanging out with their friends or partner.

Katy Van Duzen (she/her) is a sophomore majoring in Animation and Game Design with a concentration in Animation, and minoring in Digital Media Production. This is her first year interning at the LGBTQ+ Center. She enjoys drawing and looking at pictures of her dog, whom she misses dearly.

Vali (She/They) Is a student intern from BioMed Science Academy who is interested in pursuing Political Science and Software Engineering. This will be her first year working at the center, and she is excited to see what it will hold for her! She identifies as polyamorous and transfeminine. Outside of school and work, she enjoys painting models and playing tabletop games, as well as spending time with her pet cat, Apple. 

Anna (She/Her) is a College Credit Plus student from BioMed Science Academy. This is her first semester working at the LGBTQ+ Center. She is very excited to be here, meet new people, and learn more about LGBTQ+ topics. Anna is interested in fiber arts of all sorts, but her favorite is knitting. She loves listening to music and reading books, and she really likes to make curry. She is considering Kent State to study art or agriculture after she graduates high school.
