Andrew Shahriari
Biography
Dr. Andrew Shahriari is a Professor of Ethnomusicology and has taught at Kent State since 1993. He has published three books, "Khon Muang Music and Dance Traditions of North Thailand" published by White Lotus Co., Ltd., a Bangkok press, "World Music: A Global Journey" (co-authored with Kent State Professor Emeritus, Terry E. Miller), and "Popular World Music" both published by Routledge, an American press. He is a specialist on music of the Phin Pia, a chest-resonated stick zither from north Thailand. Other areas of interest include popular world music, jazz and rock music history, East and Southeast Asian music and culture, music and spirituality, possession and trance, and music therapy and autism. His fieldwork experiences have thus far taken him to Thailand, China, Europe, Mexico, Brazil, India, and many regions of the United States.
