Accounting - Minor

The Accounting minor is for students in other majors seeking to develop knowledge, skills and abilities in key functional areas of accounting that are applicable to their chosen careers. The Accounting minor is especially valuable for students pursuing career paths in business, not-for-profit or governmental organizations, where a solid understanding of the theories and concepts that underlie accounting practice is essential.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of the theory and practice of accounting.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to prepare and interpret financial reports.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of accounting information useful in decision making.

Admissions for Accounting - Minor

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

To declare the Accounting minor, students must have a minimum 2.000 overall Kent State University GPA. No Kent State University GPA is required if the student is a first-semester freshman or transfer student admitted in good standing.

Progression Requirements

  • Minimum B- grade in both ACCT 23020 and ACCT 23021 (or equivalent courses) and minimum C grade in remaining ACCT minor courses.

  • Students must earn a minimum C grade in ACCT minor courses.
  • Students are expected to satisfy course prerequisites for each course required in the minor. Prerequisites are not tied to a particular catalog; therefore it is important to look at the most current information about a course. 
  • Student may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be upper-division coursework (30000 and 40000 level).
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be outside of the course requirements for any major or other minor the student is pursuing.
  • Minimum 50 percent of the total credit hours for the minor must be taken at Kent State (in residence).

  • Photos and videos must be from your time on a Kent State education abroad program.
  • Photos and videos must be your own original work and cannot be AI-generated.
  • Photos and videos should be appropriate (meaning that you’d be comfortable if your grandma saw it!).
  • Photos and videos must be under 1GB each.

Submission Deadline

Kent State offers three Photo & Video Contest throughout the year in the summer, fall, and spring semesters.

Fall Submission Deadline: Enter by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2027. Students who participated in Fall 2026 or Academic Year 2026/2027 education abroad programs may submit.

Spring Submission Deadline: Enter by 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Students who participated in Winter Break 2026, Spring Break 2026, Spring 2026, or Academic Year 2025/2026 programs may submit.
