Heart of gold. Life was just beginning for Lainey Ward when doctors worked on her heart to keep it beating. As a passionate student of the arts, Bethany Westphal felt the need to share her love with others, specifically younger children, and help them avoid some of the negative experiences she had with music teachers growing up. The Kent State University Tuscarawas community can help the Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army reach their goal of raising $125,000 in its 2018 Red Kettle Campaign. On Fri., Nov. 30 from noon to 8 p.m., Kent State Tuscarawas students, faculty and staff will ring the bell and greet our community neighbors at Buehler’s in Dover. In 1968, the community rallied together to guarantee the reality of affordable and accessible higher education for area students. As a result of that aspiration, Kent State University at Tuscarawas celebrated 50 years on University Drive in September.
