As the semester comes to a close, Kent State University is asking faculty and staff to reduce campus energy consumption over winter break (Dec. 23-Jan. 2). As a result of collective efforts over the 2017 holiday break, the university avoided more than $25,000 in energy costs over nine days. The greenhouse gas emissions reduction was equal to taking more than 50 passenger vehicles off the road for one year. Hayley Shasteen Wins SURE Research Competition

Hayley Shasteen, a junior psychology/biology major on the Salem Campus, took first place honors at the Kent State University Summer Undergraduate Research Experience competition. She was one of 60 participants from all Kent campuses and competed in the psychological sciences division. Shasteen’s research project, “Cognitive Impairments of those with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus,” spanned 10 weeks over the past summer. The winners of the SURE program were announced in October.
