Porthouse Academy

Every summer, Kent State University's professional theatre Porthouse Theatre hosts multi-week theatre intensive workshops for high school and incoming or current college students in the form of Porthouse Academy.

Participation in Porthouse Theatre's High School Shadow Program is perfect for high school students who are interested in developing their musical theatre skills or expanding their interest in theatre design and technology.  Porthouse Theatre's College Academy is ideal for incoming freshmen who wish to jump start their college careers or strengthen their musical theatre skills. Porthouse Theatre's International Academy is a fantastic program for students from around the globe to study theatre in the United States and experience the workings of a professional theatre.

2024 Porthouse College Academy

Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University’s summer professional theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, will host its annual Porthouse Theatre College Academy during the summer of 2024.

The Academy is ideal for performance students looking to jump start their college career and further develop their musical theatre skills. Students who enroll elect to receive 3 or 6 credit hours toward their B.A. Theatre Studies or B.F.A. Musical Theatre degree.

Coursework

Students can expect to take 1-credit hour classes in Musical Theatre Dance, Musical Theatre Performance, and Acting and Monologue Preparation.

Housing

Summer housing will be in Stopher and Johnson Halls. The summer 2023 rate for housing was $225 per week for a single room with a private bath. Rates are subject to change for summer 2024. Please contact Residence Services with additional questions at (330)-672-7000 or 1-800-706-8941.
