    Biography

    Dr. Jeffrey S. Hallam is a distinguished public health scholar and leader with over 30 years of experience in health promotion and behavior change. He serves as Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Senior Associate Dean for Research and Global Affairs at Kent State University's College of Public Health. He also directs the university-wide Healthy Communities Research Institute. His research emphasizes theory-based interventions to promote health behaviors, especially physical activity; community-based participatory research; the impact of the built environment and policy on health; and the development and validation of measurement tools for theoretical concepts. Dr. Hallam has published extensively in leading public health journals and obtained significant extramural funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Before joining Kent State in 2013, he held faculty and leadership roles at The Ohio State University, Baylor University, and the University of Mississippi. He is a Certified Public Health professional (CPH), a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH), and a past President of the American Academy of Health Behavior. He has served on the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Hallam is dedicated to mentorship, community engagement, and global public health initiatives, including international collaborations and visiting scholar roles. He earned his PhD in Health Promotion and Education from The Ohio State University. Through his research, teaching, and leadership, Dr. Hallam promotes evidence-based strategies to develop healthier communities both locally and globally.
