The School of Theatre and Dance faculty and alumni are collaborating on a new play, Piedmont Point. Written by alumnus Scott Miesse (’15), Piedmont Point centers around a retirement complex in southern Florida. The play is set to premiere on August 25, 2023 to a sold-out crowd at Theatre Row, an Off-Broadway playhouse in NYC. Additional performances will be on August 26 at 8 p.m. and August 27 at 2 p.m.
In addition to Miesse, the show features other Kent State faculty and alumni. Piedmont Point is directed by Amy Fristche, associate professor of acting and musical theatre, with alumna Abigal Kane (’16) as the assistant director, Justin Gentry (’08) will be a swing in the show. The costume designer is assistant professor of costume design, Michelle Hunt Souza.
Similar to the hit sitcoms Schitt’s Creek, Grace and Frankie and The Golden Girls, this story revolves around a group of misfits living in their own eccentric world. Some are retired and some in their prime, they navigate the ups and downs of dating, growing older and following their dreams.
