Program excerpt from artistic director, Catherine Meredith:

In my inaugural year directing the Kent Dance Ensemble, it is my belief that art and specifically, dance, has the ability to stimulate and provoke changes in the human condition. It is my hope that audience members will leave the theater having shared in a visceral experience. To that end, this year’s work was chosen based on its history or legacy as well as spotlighting current innovative voices in our field. For dance to remain relevant, we must keep questioning, pushing, and driving the art form forward while continuing to honor its past.

“Collective Impressions” embraces the spirit of community, coming together. It is what is experienced when a group of people work together towards a common goal. Each individual occupying this space brings with them their own thoughts, values, interpretations, work ethics, stamina, and artistry. It is in this space where dancers start by learning choreography to discovering themselves within it. What may begin as singular ingredients, eventually forms an exciting cohesive collective. The beauty therein lies that we experience this as dancers, choreographers, and viewers.
