School of Theatre and Dance Presents "Corktown, or Through the Valley of Dry Bones" October 6-12, 2022

By Justin Augustin; Directed by: Courtney Brown

The School of Theatre and Dance begins its 2022-2023 season with the production of "Corktown, or Through the Valley of Dry Bones," by Jeff Augustin running October 6-12, 2022 in Wright-Curtis Theatre.

Directed by associate professor Courtney Brown, "Corktown, or Through the Valley of Dry Bones" tells the story of Jackee, a fabulous fourteen-year-old-boy, as he takes us on a tour of one of Detroit's oldest neighborhoods between 2007 and 2034. From the neighborhood's urban blight to the gentrified renaissance, Jeff Augustin chronicles the life cycle of a city, affected by and affecting the lives of its residents. This tale filled with gospel music, graffiti, and organic coffee shows how—even when the music gets turned down, the graffiti is painted over, and the streets become safer—there's a beating heart in a place's history that can't be erased.

The "Corktown, or Through the Valley of Dry Bones" production team includes assistant director Natalya Lindsey, costume design by Keely Rutledge, lighting design by David Bruns, scenic design by Kathalina Thorpe, sound design by Bella Brehm, props supervision by Kathalina Thorpe, and technical direction by Jack Libengood. Samantha Pamfilie is the production stage manager. School of Theatre and Dance director Tony Hardin is the producer.
