Students Shine in Summer Dance Intensive

This summer, the School of Theatre and Dance opened their doors to welcome students to the first ever Summer Dance Intensive.

During the one-week summer dance program, high schoolers participated in a range of dance courses from modern, classical ballet, jazz, musical theatre, yoga and tap.

Ambre Emory-Maier, assistant professor of dance at Kent State University, spearheaded the program as lead director.

“The dance division at Kent State is excited to bring this opportunity to students that provides community engagement, learning and recruitment to the School of Theatre and Dance. Our expert faculty and beautiful facilities have so much to offer students in their pursuit of the study of dance.  We hope that the participants can see themselves dancing at Kent State and leave with a sense of meaningful learning and belonging,” said Emory-Maier.

The intensives also offered lunch and learns with topics such as injury prevention and eating disorder awareness.
