Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D., Kent State’s vice president for the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, has been named to Crain’s Cleveland 2022 Notable Executives in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
In introducing the 2022 Notable Executives in DEI, Crains explains that DEI as a concept is meaningful but makes an impact when businesses follow through. All the people on the list of 20 executives are intentional in promoting understanding and generating diversity and inclusion to benefit all, according to Crain’s.
“They are not just talking some talk. They are walking the walk when it comes to making their workplace and the entire community a more welcoming and inclusive culture,” according to Crain’s.
Gooden is featured in Crain's 2022 Notable Executives in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Q&A: 'We need all voices to promote DEI.’ When asked “What does diversity and inclusion mean to you?” Gooden responded: “It means creating a space in the world where everybody has equal access to opportunity and the chance to find their way to success.” See the rest of the Q and A here.
Gooden was selected as vice president for DEI in 2021. Prior to that, she had served a year as interim vice president, while she remained as chair and associate professor in the university’s Department of Pan-African Studies, now known as the Department of Africana Studies.
