Erin Simonek and Madison Tromler may be familiar faces if you watch the local evening news in Youngstown.
Both are alumnae of Kent State University’s journalism program who graduated in 2020 and said having a degree from Kent State helped set them apart from the competition when they began their job searches.
Today, they are news anchors and multimedia journalists with 21 WFMJ-TV and credit the real-world training they experienced while studying at Kent State for their immediate success after graduation.
Simonek and Tromler sat down with Kent State Today to talk about their experiences in the university’s journalism program and how it prepared them to hit the ground running within the first week on the job.
