Kent State University's Undergraduate Student Government represents the undergraduate student body. On Oct. 25, student government welcomed members of Hillel and Students for Justice in Palestine for both student groups to present their concerns about the Israel-Hamas war in a respectful environment.
One of the main conversation points among the students was a lack of response from student government. Students and members of both groups want to know where the organization stands concerning the Israel-Hamas war.
Students for Justice in Palestine urged Undergraduate Student Government to make a statement condemning the Israeli government. Hillel members asked the student government to consider the varying views among Kent State students prior to releasing a statement if they felt one was necessary.
“I’m very proud of the students who came out to our meeting this past Wednesday to deliver public contributions,” said Julie Buonaiuto, student body president and senior marketing major. “I'm always grateful for an opportunity to hear students' voices, and I believe it takes a tremendous amount of courage to stand at the podium and speak your mind like those students did.”
Buonaiuto expressed gratitude for the respectful environment provided and the passion students exhibited.
