Michael Gershe, senior advisor II in Kent State University’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering, captured images of the blimp parade last week in the skies over the Kent State University Airport and downtown Akron.

Goodyear brought together its three airships for “victory laps” over Ohio to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the iconic blimp, officially observed on June 3. That date marks 100 years since the inaugural flight of Goodyear’s first branded blimp, “Pilgrim,” which got its name during a christening at the Kent State University Airport in 1925.

Three Kent State alumni are current blimp pilots for Goodyear and other Kent State alumni serve on the support crew for these aircraft.
