On February’s coldest days, nature created its own sculptures, in ice, on “The Brain” and other objects in Kent State’s Behind the Brain Plaza located behind Merrill Hall.

The plaza is the brainchild of Professor Emeritus Brinsley Tyrrell. Installation of the 64,000-lb. brain sculpture and platform, along with the plaza’s benches and fountain, was completed in 2000.

The Behind the Brain Plaza has become a favorite place for students to study, picnic and relax - when the weather is warmer, of course.
