A weekend downpour refreshed campus for the new week at Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR) in Curitiba, Brazil. It’s the home of the American Academy (AA), a dual-enrollment program offered jointly by Kent State University and PUCPR.
Kent State’s partnership with PUCPR offers students the opportunity to earn an associate degree in Brazil and then come to the Kent Campus to complete a bachelor’s degree, or to do the same in Brazil. Several students are also planning studies at Kent State’s Florence, Italy, campus as part of their programs. Currently, about 150 students are enrolled in the American Academy.
The covered walkways around campus are a necessity, especially during Curitiba’s “wet season,” from October through March, when there’s a 46% chance of rain on any given day. In an average year, 62 inches of rain will fall in Curitiba. By comparison, the average annual rainfall in Kent, Ohio, is just 39 inches per year.
