Today is Flash the Mascot's 38th birthday!
To answer the question "Which came first?" – It was the egg. Flash hatched from an egg, mid-field at halftime on Oct. 12, 1985, during the Homecoming football game at Dix Stadium. The fiberglass egg had been created by students in the Kent State University Technology Education Club, who put in more than 300 hours to construct a giant egg out of fiberglass and resin
The egg was moved into Dix Stadium after riding down East Main Street on a float, with cheerleaders sittting on top of it during the Homecoming parade.
