Kent State University has always been a place where breaking down barriers and changing the norm are encouraged and alumna Julia Montgomery Walsh serves as proof.
Ms. Walsh passed away in 2003, but her work in business and finance continues to be recognized for the strides she made for women in her field.
Ms. Walsh was featured recently on Bloomberg’s list of women who broke barriers in business over the last 150 years.
“Walsh was the first woman to receive a B.S. in business administration at Kent State University and the first female graduate of the Harvard Business School’s advanced-management program,” Bloomberg said of the Akron native.
According to “Profiles of Ohio Women” by Jaqueline Jones Royster, Ms. Walsh also was the first female student body president of Kent State.
Ms. Walsh went on to become one of the first female members of the American Stock Exchange.
