Team Sri Lanka took first place for the second year in a row at Kent State University’s annual International Cook-Off Competition, sponsored by the Office of Global Education on Nov. 17, 2023, in the Kent Student Ballroom.
The competition, Global Education's signature event, was held during International Education Week and featured food and beverages from around the world. The cook-off featured student culinary teams, who prepared and presented different cultural entrees from their home countries or regions. The teams were selected and trained in safe food handling by the University Culinary Services executive chef and staff.
The winners are:
First Place – Team Sri Lanka (for the second year in a row)
Second Place – Team China
Third Place – Team Ghana (Ghana’s first time participating)
People’s Choice Award – Team India
A total of seven teams representing the following countries, competed in the cook-off:
- China
- Ghana
- India
- Iran
- Nigeria
- Peru
- Sri Lanka
This year's judges were Marcello Fantoni, vice president for Global Education; Mark Mistur, dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design; and Yvonna Washington-Greer, assistant vice president of Equity, Identity, and Success.
