Sen. Husted Tours Kent State's College of Podiatric Medicine, Showcases Jersey Honoring Family's Kent State Soccer Legacy

U.S. Sen. Jon Husted visited Kent State University's College of Podiatric Medicine on Sept. 2 for a tour of the college's Independence, Ohio, campus, meeting with students and learning more about the college's mission to train the next generation of podiatric physicians.

Husted was welcomed by college leadership for a walk-through of the college's educational spaces, where he spoke with students about their coursework and clinical training. Founded in 1916, Kent State's College of Podiatric Medicine is the largest podiatric medical college in the country and one of only nine accredited podiatric medical colleges in the United States.

The college's mission is to educate a diverse and inclusive group of students to become highly competent doctors of podiatric medicine who excel in residency training and go on to provide compassionate care to patients nationwide.

During the visit, Husted was pictured with a framed jersey honoring the Kent State soccer career of Bob Clouse, who is the stepfather of the senator's wife, Tina. Clouse served as Kent State's goalkeeper from 1971 to 1975, earning four varsity letters and twice serving as team captain.

He recorded 531 career saves — tied for eighth in NCAA history — and his 15.1 saves-per-game average still ranks second nationally.

A three-time All-Mid-American Conference honoree, Clouse was later named to Kent State men's soccer All-Decade Team of the 1970s and inducted into the university's Varsity K Hall of Fame in 2022.
