Kent State University’s Porthouse Theatre has kicked off the 2023 season with Broadway classic, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” which runs through June 24.
Based on the book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, this fast-paced farce features music and lyrics by Broadway icon Stephen Sondheim. The musical, directed by Terri Kent with choreography by Martiń Ceśpedes and musical direction by Jennifer Korecki, merges the energy and wit of classic vaudevillian performances with the 2,000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Platus.
Established in 1970, the Porthouse Theatre is located on the beautifully landscaped grounds of Blossom Music Center. Pack a picnic and enjoy dinner in the outdoor pavilion or picnic tables before the show. Performances begin at 8 p.m.
