How to Join the ROTC

Freshmen in College

Simply register for Military Science (MSCI) Intro to Leadership I (Fall Semester) or MSCI Intro to Leadership II (Spring Semester).  Additionally you will register for the MSCI Leadership Seminar (lab).  If you enroll in these classes and you decided you like ROTC, you may be eligible to compete for a 2- or 3-year scholarship.

Sophomore in College

If you have six semesters remaining in college, register for MSCI Leadership Assessment I  (Fall semester) or MSCI Leadership Assessment  II (Spring Semester). Additionally you must enroll in the MSCI Leadership Seminar (lab).  

If you only have 4 or 5 semesters remaining , you will be required to attend a 4-week summer training camp which replaces year one (MS1) and year two (MS2) cadet classes. After completion, you return to campus and enroll as a junior in ROTC (MS3)  and complete the remaining 4 semesters of Military Science courses and training. You will also be eligible to compete for a 2-year Army  scholarship. These training camp spots are incredibly competitive and those chosen are exceeding program expectations, being identified as leaders within the ROTC program.

 

Green to Gold

There are many opportunities for enlisted Army Soldiers to participate in the Green to Gold program. This programs allows current Soldiers to leave their units, return to college, and enroll in ROTC to become an officer. Soldiers selected to participate in this program will continue to receive their current pay and allowances while in the program (up to a maximum of 24 consecutive months).

Classes and Curriculum

What Do I Need for ROTC?

Nothing. All required textbooks and supplies are issued from the ROTC department. There are no additional fees to participate in the program. Uniforms are issued based on local policy and availability for underclassmen.

For non Army Scholarship students there is NO commitment for the first two years of ROTC.

How Many Military Science Classes are there?

Military Science (MSCI) Classes classes are taught for each year Freshman through Senior (MS1 through MS4). There is a classroom Leadership Seminar with a separate Leadership Lab on Wednesdays each semester.

Semester Requirements

Each semester, there is a weekend field training exercise (FTX) in addition to required classes and lab. The Fall FTX runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday early afternoon. The Spring FTX runs from Friday through Sunday afternoon. Both training exercises occur at Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center (formerly the Ravenna Arsenal), and provide the student with a challenging weekend of Army tactical and field training.

Advance Camp Requirement

Cadet Summer Training is the culmination of leadership and Solider skills you have developed over the course of three years in ROTC. During the Summer between your MS3 and MS4 years,  you are required to attend the Army ROTC Advanced Camp (aka Cadet Summer Training or "CST"). This challenging four-week training course is designed to evaluate all Army ROTC Cadets on their potential to become Commissioned Officers in the United States Army. This course is conducted at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
