Kent State University School of Art is proud to announce that our M.F.A. program has again been ranked among the top in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Kent State climbed four spots to #110 in 2020 from the 2016 ranking of #114. We are honored that our world-renowned graduate faculty and students are being recognized for their talent and dedication to the field.
"With data on more than 1,800 schools across the United States, I’m proud that Kent State University’s School of Art has been ranked #110 and has advanced in its rankings since 2016. Since that time, the faculty have identified key initiatives to form our academic and artistic visions into a cohesive strategy. They have worked hard to develop ideas and initiatives to advance the School of Art on all fronts. Our graduate students have all risen to the challenge and have become some of society’s best critical thinkers, artists, educators, and leaders. I couldn’t be more pleased about the School of Art’s accomplishments," said School of Art Director, Marie Bukowski.
Kent State offers the only M.F.A. Studio Art program in northeast Ohio and is the only program in the state to offer this breadth of studio specialties: ceramics, drawing, glass, painting, jewelry/metals/enameling, print media and photography, sculpture and expanded media, and textiles. Students are encouraged to work across disciplines and techniques in order to develop a body of work that reflects their independent investigations in their discipline. Studio practice is supplemented with art history seminars, visiting artist lectures, summer workshops, and travel study programs to New York City, culminating in a solo M.F.A. thesis exhibition.
