Video: Center for the Visual Arts Opens with Grand Celebration

The School of Art's newly completed Center for the Visual Arts celebrated its grand opening on May 6. A large crowd filled the building lobby for the opening ceremony, which was followed by tours, live music, student exhibitions and a keynote lecture by visiting artist Mel Chin. Watch the video, which excerpts opening remarks by Beverly Warren (Kent State president), John Crawford-Spinelli (College of the Arts dean), Christine Havice (School of Art director) and Dennis Eckart (Board of Trustees chair):

As part of the museum’s “Sparkle” exhibition, students explored the artistry and heritage of the renowned American jewelry house David Webb through a special lecture and hands-on design assignment.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries is pleased to announce "Metamorphosis," a permanent sculptural installation created by Violet Maimbourg, a Master of Fine Arts graduate student at Kent State University. The work was created for the Healing Garden at the University Hospital Portage Medical Center, offering visitors a space for reflection and peace.
