Ashley D. Nemes-Baran, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Case Western Reserve University where she has helped to develop a new undergraduate major in neuroscience that started in 2020. She received her BS in Neuroscience and Psychology from Baldwin-Wallace University and her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience from the Kent State University/Cleveland Clinic Collaborative doctoral program, where she worked with Dr. Imad Najm in the Epilepsy Center to elucidate underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of epileptogenesis. After her PhD, Dr. Nemes worked with Drs. Cullen, Chen and Wolf at the University of Pennsylvania studying cutting edge techniques in neural tissue engineering to treat neurotrauma and post-traumatic epilepsy. Following this, she completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute with Dr. Tara DeSilva investigating a novel role for microglia in pruning living oligodendrocyte progenitor cells during normal brain development. Dr. Nemes is now an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University where she teaches courses on the fundamentals of neuroscience, the neurobiology of homeostasis, hands-on labs for research methods used in neuroscience and has made significant contributions to foster an undergraduate neuroscience community as the faculty advisor for Case Neuroscience Society (CNS).
