Recent weather changes are threatening Ohio’s farmers, but a switch to organic practices could be part of the solution. All that’s needed now, is for the government to support the transition.  According to the Ohio Livestock Coalition, “Agriculture is the number-one contributor to Ohio’s economy,” with almost 75,000 farms in the state, and one out of eight jobs in Ohio related to farming.

What has been dubbed by Vox and other news as “the worst energy bill of the 21st century” has put Ohio behind in the transition to renewable energy.  

As the world population nears 10 billion by 2050, overall food demand is expected to increase by over 50%, according to the World Resources Institute. Climate change will make feeding that population more difficult in some regions.

Fast fashion, the rapid production of cheap, trendy clothing, depends on an equally speedy and inexpensive supply chain, which stretches across the globe. The shirt on your back likely traveled thousands of miles and passed through dozens of hands, from seed engineers to cotton farmers to garment sewers to ship captains to retail workers.

The average global sea surface temperature increased 0.23 degree Fahrenheit per decade over the past 100 years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. As water warms, it has the potential to disrupt the very balance of ocean life—for both the marine animals who live in the waters and the people who call the shores home.
