How many high schools in the United States offer student media?

Two national surveys commissioned by the Center for Scholastic Journalism in 2011 and 2021 tracked the percentages of public high schools that support newspapers, yearbooks, TV programs and radio outlets.

Research Methods The 2021 data consists of responses from 801 schools. The survey was distributed to a random sample of 5,016 public high schools from across the United States, with an oversample of Ohio schools. The response rate was 16 percent. Responses were weighted by state population to offset the oversampling of Ohio schools. The 2011 data consists of responses from 1,023 schools. The survey was distributed to a random sample (stratified by state population) of 4,354 public high schools. The response rate was 24 percent. Responses were weighted to account for systematic nonresponse related to school states and demographics.
