Ashley Rutkoski and Michelle Bebber at Kent State's Eren Lab

The Eren Lab at Kent State University’s Department of Anthropology is among the university’s busiest and most prolific. Because of the lab and guidance from Metin Eren, Ph.D., assistant professor of anthropology and director of archaeology in the College of Arts and Sciences, two students have achieved great accomplishments in archaeology. Graduate student Ashley Rutkoski designed a novel experiment to explore how ancient pots were discarded. “After stone, ceramic sherds are one of the most abundant things we find in the archaeological record,” Eren said. Doctoral student Michelle Beb...

Kent State University purchased a building in the heart of Florence back in 2016, which has since been renovated extensively to make the perfect Florentine palace for Kent State students to study. Since 2012, the number of Kent State students wanting to spend part of their degree in Florence has exploded, Fabrizio Ricciardelli, director of Kent State’s Florence Center told Times Higher Education. Message from the Provost   Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, I want to provide you with an update related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, specifically regarding the implementation of new travel restrictions. Let me begin by reiterating that as of this writing, there are no suspected cases in Ohio, and we are thankful to learn that two students who were under isolation at Miami of Ohio have tested negative for the virus. While the spread of the virus within the United States is still considered to be low risk, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) upgraded its warning ...

Students studying in a classroom

The "C" in "college" might as well stand for "cramming." Studies show students are notoriously bad at adopting and adhering consistently to high-impact study habits that help them retain knowledge long-term. Researchers and faculty at Kent State University, however, are collaborating on a new project to put a modern technological twist on a tried-and-true study tactic. "We are working with faculty in the sciences to evaluate the degree to which a technique called successive relearning can improve students' learning and retention of core concepts, and improve their achievement on their high ...
