Steve Schillig, Kent State University at Tuscarawas SBDC director, was recently recognized by theTuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce as the Volunteer of the Year. Schillig volunteers his time to serve on several business and education-related boards in the area which benefit residents and businesses in Tuscarawas County. On February 21, Jackie Searfoss, a representative of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church (SUMC), visited Kent State University to introduce the Honors College community to an initiative that SUMC is very passionate about. At the event, which was organized by Honors College special assistant Lori Michael, Searfoss showed Honors College students and staff how to create sleeping mats for the homeless using only scissors and plastic grocery bags. Campus Executive Chef, Billy Edmondson, won first place at the 2020 NACUFS Midwest Culinary Challenge. The event took place at University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana this past weekend. Chef Billy battled other competitors while he cooked and prepared the winning dish, Jerk Cornish Hen with Hash topped with Pickled Slaw. Following Governor Mike DeWine’s proactive approach, Kent State University has ceased face-to-face classes for the remainder of the spring semester. Remote instruction will begin March 16. “I’m at my happiest when I’m making music or teaching others to do it,” says Dr. Jay Dorfman. Dr. Dorfman gets to teach a variety of music courses at Kent State University ranging from music technology to Progressive and Vernacular Music Methods to Rock Band Performance and Pedagogy.
