President Diacon at the Freeze Out Game 2023

Kent State University President Todd Diacon joined the Marching Golden Flashes and fans at Dix Stadium to cheer on our team at the annual Freeze Out Game. 

Palestinian Candlelight Vigil 11-09-23

Hi, my name is Mark Stillion, and I am one of those people. I am one of the many, who signed the dotted line, before I even turned 18 years old to go and serve and protect something that I felt was worth fighting for: my freedom.

Golden I Jewish student group held a vigil in which they read the names of the Israeli people killed by Hamas Oct. 7.

The goal of the Golden I vigil was to acknowledge that the Israeli people who were brutally murdered were real people with real lives, said Rose Martyn, vice president of Golden I.

Students Celebrating B’nai Mitzva

On Monday, Hebros hosted its first-ever Hebros B’nai Mitzvah Reception, where Kent State students were invited to visit the Hillel Center to take part in games, enjoy food and learn about Jewish practices.

“We institutionalize the work of violence prevention to be part of the culture of Kent State,” Jennifer O’Connell, director of SRVSS, said. “It feeds into Flashes Take Care of Flashes and that there’s a commitment as an institution that we support our students, that we help prevent harm from happening in our community, and we look out for one another.” 

Senior business major Matthew Helmick-Bickel served in the U.S. Army five years ago.

Matthew Helmick-Bickel, 29, spent five years in the U.S. Army as an airborne paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina, now known as Fort Liberty, before he enrolled at Kent State in 2020.

Voting is under way this Election Day, with students heading to the Beverly Warren Recreation Center among other voting locations to cast their ballots on issues like reproductive health and the legalization of cannabis, as well as various school board and levy decisions.
