Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance is ranked #50 on Study.com's list of Best Theatre Bachelor's Degree programs in the United States. In addition to this national ranking, the School of Theatre and Dance is one of only two theatre programs from the state of Ohio on the list. The School of Theatre and Dance offers theatre bachelors degrees in Theatre Studies (B.A.), Musical Theatre (B.F.A.), and Design Technology and Production (B.F.A.). Theatre students experience hands-on training in the classroom and through theatre production in a professionally-modeled, liberal arts-based enviroment.
Alumni of the School of Theatre and Dance work nationally and internationally in a variety of creative industries and beyond. Graduates regularly work on Broadway, off-Broadway and on national tours, in film and television, in nonprofits and corporations, and at educational institutions. Alumni that received their bachelor's degrees from Kent State include Tony Award winner Alice Ripley; Emmy-nominated costume designer Kristine Haag; Mean Girls original company member Tee Boyich; director, actor and comedian Steve Byrne; Broadway and off-Broadway actress Antoinette Comer; Freestyle Love Supreme and Anatasia assistant lighting designer Margaret Peebles; Chicago-based actor, director and accessibility consultant C. Richard Costes; and New York-based lighting designer and Julliard master electrician Carly Shiner.
