The music theory and composition area features a student-centered approach to academic coursework in all undergraduate and graduate music programs. Degrees are available the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level.
Kent State is one of only 27 schools of music in the U.S. offering a Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology. The division also offers the World Music minor to undergraduate students as well as ensembles dedicated to the study of Pan-African and Pan-Asian music.
Kent State is one of only two public universities in Ohio to offer the Bachelors through Ph.D. in Music Education. As part of the program of study, students receive intensive instruction in music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, applied study and education.
