Registration is open! The registration deadline for Participants is October 7 or until positions are filled. Observers may apply until November 1.

Symposium Schedule

FRIDAY, NOV. 8

6:00 p.m. Open rehearsal with Wind Ensemble and Steven Davis (Cartwright Hall)  
7:30 p.m. Wind Ensemble Concert (Cartwright Hall)  
8:30 p.m. Meet and greet for participants and clinicians (Cartwright Hall Lobby) 

SATURDAY, NOV. 9

7:30 a.m. Check-in (Cartwright Hall)

8:00 a.m. Welcome/Opening Session   
9:00-12:30 p.m. Symphony Band — Conducting Session 1

Lunch

1:30-5:00 p.m. Wind Ensemble — Conducting Session 2  
5:15 p.m. Wrap-up  
6:30 p.m. Open rehearsal with Kent State Youth Winds and Steven Davis (Cartwright Hall)  
7:30 p.m. Youth Winds Concert  
9:00 p.m. Social Event (Bricco)  

Fees

Participants: $175 (Limited to 14, spots are reserved when paid)

Observers: $50 (Unlimited enrollment)

Non-KSU Student Observers: $25 (Unlimited enrollment)

 

Participant:

  • Participate in all clinic sessions, discussions and social events

  • Conduct the Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble (20 minutes of podium time)

  • Receive professional video recordings

  • Receive CEU credit for participation (1 CEU/10 contact hours) 

 

Observer:

  • Participate in all clinic sessions, discussions and social events

  • Observe conducting sessions

  • Receive CEU credit for participation (1 CEU/10 contact hours)

Transportation

Cleveland, Akron and Kent all have regular availability for rides with Uber and Lyft, which can be used alone or in combination with local public transportation.  

Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) bus schedules ‐ provides regional transportation in and around campus with limited service in Cleveland and Akron on Fridays.  

Dining

 There are plenty of fast-food options near campus and nicer restaurants downtown.
