Kent State spectators look to the sky during the solar eclipse.

Using protective glasses, cell phones and the occasional cardboard box, Kent State University students, faculty and staff gathered outside Monday afternoon to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse.  About 80 to 85 percent of the total solar eclipse was visible from campus, with the peak viewing time at approximately 2:30 p.m. A group of about 200 gathered on the commons outside the Kent Student Center to sky-watch for the event, being called “the Great American Eclipse,” because it could only be viewed from the United States. Kent State University volunteers help move freshman into their new residence halls during the annual service program, called Movers and Groovers.

At the beginning of each school year, Kent State University faculty, staff and students volunteer to help incoming freshmen move into the university’s residence halls. The annual service program, called Movers and Groovers, is coordinated by Kent Interhall Council, the student government of the residence halls on the Kent Campus. The volunteers aid new students and their families, providing assistance and helping to make the move-in process less stressful.
