Kent State University’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies and School of Communication Studies has organized a panel discussion to talk about free speech and protest on campus to educate students about their rights and responsibilities.The event, "Rights, Free Speech, and Protest at Kent State" will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in the Reflections Gallery of the May 4 Visitors Center, 141 Taylor Hall.The panel was organized for two reasons. A blaze burns the prairie grass that grows behind the Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center during a controlled burning by the Kent Fire Department.

The protected prairie surrounding Kent State University’s Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center will be burned on Monday, April 15, between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon, to allow for new growth during the summer season. The city of Kent Fire Department will conduct the controlled burning of the prairie, which has been a yearly practice since 2004. The prairie burn on April 15 is dependent on the weather and the Kent Fire Department not being called to an emergency.
