Are new hires required to complete the Beyond Compliance Requirement?

Yes, new hires are expected to complete the Beyond Compliance requirement. During new hire orientation, new employees are asked to complete the four courses listed below:

  • Bridges: Building A Supportive Community (Title IX)
  • Bullying in the Workplace
  • Ethics and Code of Conduct
  • Prevent Harassment and Discrimination

All four courses are Beyond Compliance eligible. All faculty and staff are required to complete at least two hours of Beyond Compliance training every year. To register, visit www.kent.edu/hr/training/beyond-compliance. If your employee did not attend new hire orientation and needs to be assigned the courses, please contact the Training and Development department at hrd@kent.edu or call Monica Guinn at 330-672-0684.

Testing Your Faith Act (H.B. 353) was enacted in the Spring 2023 semester. In ordinance with this bill, Kent State University created a new administrative policy for religious and spiritual accommodations. This administrative policy allows students to report up to three days of unexcused absences to participate in religious holidays or community-held events in alignment with their spirituality.

At Kent State, we want to honor the celebration of our Native American and Indigenous culture by developing a calendar encompassing all the university events that are relevant to Native American Heritage Month. The Native American Heritage Month Planning Committee is welcoming university divisions, departments and student organizations to begin submitting their programming, activities and events to the University Events Calendar to be featured on the Native American Heritage Month Website.
