In September 2023, the divisions of Human Resources and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) merged to create the new Division of People, Culture and Belonging. Under the leadership of Vice President Amoaba Gooden, this division will enhance Kent State’s focus on the well-being of people and organizational culture while elevating the work of both units. The Division of People, Culture and Belonging will strengthen efforts geared toward Kent State’s institutional mission and vision and advance the university’s culture of care, kindness and respect.
Pay changes per the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
In April, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued a final rule to alter the overtime pay regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The rule increased the minimum salary threshold to $43,888 on July 1, 2024, and then to $58,656 on January 1, 2025. The rule also implements automatic updates to the threshold that will occur every three years.
In compliance with the final rule, Kent State University will implement updates to assignments for employees earning less than $58,656 and who are currently exempt from overtime. Kent State will use an effective date of January 1, 2025, to be in compliance.
