Kent State’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Presents Trends in Diversity

Kent State University’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is presenting the inaugural issue of a new peer-reviewed, academic online journal called Trends in Diversity.

Trends in Diversity is an open-access, online journal that provides a platform for intellectual dialogue and exploration of emerging and transformative issues of equity, inclusiveness and diversity in higher education.

Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alfreda Brown, Ed.D., envisions the journal as a voice to what is taking place in higher education toward historically underrepresented communities and marginalized groups.

“The journal offers the perfect infrastructure for faculty/practitioner’s nationally and internationally who lead the way in research on historically underrepresented communities and marginalized groups to publish their research,” says Ruth A. Washington, Ph.D., executive director for faculty and graduate student retention, inclusion and success at Kent State. “We certainly want our faculty/practitioners who do research in this area at Kent State to submit papers for publication.”

According to the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the release of the journal represents an opportune moment to join the dialogue with a new voice and approach to revealing what is taking place in higher education pertaining to issues of disenfranchisement toward historically underrepresented communities and marginalized groups.

“This new journal illustrates a long line of successes of the university’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” says Dr. Washington, who also serves as editor of the journal. “It sends a clear message to authors that there is a new outlet available for their research. We hope the journal will become a key publication in the diversity area/field.”

The journal is freely accessible for open access to the full text of articles and can be found at https://digitalcommons.kent.edu/td/. Readers can download and print any article at no cost. Trends in Diversity will be initially published once a year.

“There are only a few scholarly journals with diversity as the theme and scope, therefore Kent State will be a pioneer in an area generating luminosity,” Dr. Washington says.
