Walk-and-Talk Series – Join Us on May 17

On Friday, April 15, the Division of Human Resources launched its spring/summer walk-and-talk series. The subject matter of the day was “pollinators.” The pollinator walk was led by zoology major Jen Giles. Roughly 40 faculty and staff members attended the lunchtime walk, which included a visit to the campus greenhouse, monarch butterfly garden and discussion about the different types of daffodils in bloom during the walk. In addition, faculty and staff got the inside scoop on the various types of trees on campus and their peak blooming periods.

Many of the employees participating in the walk also are part of the current national On The Move Challenge that the university is participating in.

“So not only were they able to enrich their minds by learning from Jen, they also were able to meet other employees on campus and work in some extra steps for the day,” says Kim Hauge, manager, university wellness and healthy campus promotions.

The walk-and-talk series is offered to faculty, staff and students as part of the university wellness offerings. The next scheduled walk will be on May 17. The leader will be Beth Michel from the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Michel will share how to get the most out of our walk. Registration is not required for the walk-and-talk programs. Employees are asked to meet at the black squirrel located between the University Library and the Kent Student Center at noon on the date of the walk. We will plan to depart for the walk at 12:10 p.m. and return to the starting location just before 1 p.m.
